A discipline, a sparkle and a gift

Late July marked the start of school holidays which means that I’m half way through a little break in my usual teaching schedule. So far this summer I’ve enjoyed… dancing with my adult dancers, lesson planning, training with the Royal Academy of dance and learning some new exercises to strengthen my own ballet technique. Some days have been BALLET free but it’s rare for me to have a completely DANCE free day (I can’t help a little boogie to the radio or a quick foot warm up under my desk)!

During the break I’ve relaxed into some creative writing and found some brain space to dabble in poetry. I love writing poems, for family and friends but I’ve never written one with a dance theme. So here is a little poem especially for you. I hope you love it as much as I loved writing it.

Dance is…

Dance is a movement, gliding through air,

It’s a leap, it’s a twist, it’s a run.

Dance is a sparkle, a glint in an eye,

It’s freeing, it’s buzzy, it’s fun.

Dance is a discipline, something you learn,

It’s perseverance, it’s dedication, its drive.

Dance is around us, a moment in time,

It’s here, it’s there, it’s alive.

Dance is an expression, buried deep within,

It’s daring, it’s brave, it’s bold.

Dance is a gift, a treasure inside,

It’s a story, it’s magic, it’s gold.
